This virtual course is particularly designed for Healthcare Assistants who maybe expanding their role to support the healthcare clinician who conducts the full Asthma and COPD reviews.

It covers:

• Accountability
• Understanding basic anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
• Tools used for diagnosis
• Symptoms of both conditions
• Understanding the importance peak flow in asthma
• Inhaler technique
• Basic management
• Red flags
• When to refer to senior clinician

There is a competency document included in the training to work through with a designated mentor, who should be trained and competent to perform a full respiratory review.

Accountability for this training requires the HCA to have completed a general course at level 2 or 3.
